Presumptuous Blogging: Things you should read (12/09/2015)

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas err....May.  In Houston anyway......

Lies and the lying liars that lie. - Every time Wendy(?!?) opens her mouth she just looks worse and worse. Fortunately, for her, there's a cottage industry in politics for newly minted progressives who have no policy chops and made bad career-path choices.

Term-Limited Council Member Ed Gonzalez is running for Harris County Sheriff. - I honestly had no idea who the Harris County Democrat Party would pick to get slaughtered by Hickman.  Now we know.

Get hammered in an election, throw a tantrum. Make no mistake, a temper tantrum is exactly what this is. Parker and the enlightened ones do not take well to being told, via the ballot box, that they don't know what's best for their subjects. Never mind that none of their predictions of DOOM!!! for Houston have come through.  (That said, Kubosh, with the 'bullying' stuff needs to chill as well).

Mimi Swartz's tantrum is directed at you, via New York. It's always funny when a member of the TLSPM gets some attention from the NYT. Their sense of importance immediately inflates and they feel a need to write several articles about how, while Texans are for the most part back-water rubes, they, and their friends, are certainly not. (Which makes them look like even bigger back-water rubes clawing for a touch of the King's robe)

Read this.

and this

and this.

You're welcome.

We don't want to put oil and gas companies out of business.  We just want it to be illegal to use any of the products they produce and sell. (And that's not even really true either.  What they want is for the Government to control, and own, oil and gas production. If that happened global warming would be solved over night.  This is about a money and power grab, not saving Gaia)

Reporters, with journalism degrees, should not attempt complicated pension accounting.  If you're wondering what's wrong with Morris' numbers here I would direct you to this from an actual CPA.

Yet another TLSPM "gotcha" that really isn't. In today's environment do we REALLY want the Governor traveling without a security detail? I didn't think so.

We're (not) ALL GOING TO DIE!!!!!!

I wonder if Jeff Lunhow could convince the Boston to keep her permanently for a player to be named later?

Speaking of moving on, how can we miss SciGuy if he won't go away?

John Thornton's Texas Tribune discovers that Government transparency is, sort-of, nice to have decides that this redistricting case might have some importance (hint: it will) and continues running house editorials under the guise of "analysis" despite publically claiming to have no op/ed section outside of TribTalk.

With a couple of notable exceptions, who the Chronicle feels are "exceptional" in Houston really aren't. It's the usual gang of progressive socialites with some truly interesting people thrown in for good measure.  Pass.

Meanwhile, with journalism resources thin and dwindling, this is the type of stuff the Chronicle thinks is worthy of them. Mess of a paper.

A quick look at the Chron Editorial Board.

Oh Shit! After years of railing against Houston's largest industry we just realized that Houston will be nothing more than a hole in the road without them!  Of note: the areas they suggest Houston "expand it's economy" in (Education, Healthcare, Space Exploration) are largely government enterprises now, showing that what they REALLY want is a Houston free of small and private business.

The MOST PRESSING issue in the City of Houston - According to the Editorial Board who, in between attacks of the vapours over guns, is obsessing over a sign. I used to say "imagine the reporting that could be done were they dissolved and the resources redeployed to the news desks.  But then I see "investigative" reporting on Trader Joe's and I realize none of it matters any longer.

In the battle for the worst thing written regarding the local elections:

Lisa Falkenberg is the clear winner. - In summary, she pens a quick recap of things already written by other people, takes credit about "writing about it previously" and then caps the whole thing off with "make up your own mind" which is the equivalent of saying "I got nothing".  Either she was under deadline and drawing a blank or she really does have no clue.

To be fair, Chris Tomlinson (The Chron's Austin-based, Houston business columnist) was a close second.

And, finally......

I'm reminded of the Walter Mathieu character in Hail to the Chief. "Why don't you pull your lip over your head, and swallow".  That's pretty good advice for whomever is green lighting the content at Chron.com (the free portion of the Chron's digital outlet).

I realize that you want the "good stuff" (Falkenberg's musings, the vapidity of the Editorial Board) behind the paywall but can we at least make the stuff on the outside meaningful and relevant to Houston?
