Presumptuous Blogging: Things you should read (09/01/2015)

More than a little scattershot this time as there's a lot of interesting stuff going on.

Texas experiment with gambling is failing. - Yes, it's fair to say that it's purposefully failing right now. It's even fair to blame the Texas State Senate for some of the failures, but that unfairly removes the blame from the industry itself. I'll have a full blog-post on this at a later time but for now.....you can't go to the track today.

Is the method for funding Texas schools unconstitutional?  -  Aaaaand....we're off!  Again.  Because this is how we solve problems in a State that's sorely lacking in leadership.  Don't believe anyone on the left who doesn't openly admit that they're happy about this. This is political ketchup to them. It goes on pretty much everything and no Republican program is complete without it.  Of course, some on the Right are happy as well because it removes from them the requirements of leadership. Texas being a state without much (leadership) after all.

The Kinder Institute loves them some big, unaccountable, government solutions. - Are we really surprised that an organization who constructs their annual "Houston Area Survey" to promote New Urbanist, strict, centrally-planned solutions would produce a survey that suggests New Urbanist, strict, centrally planned solutions to a problem?

Time to change the moniker for the Chron Editorial Board. - The "New" Mrs. White is a little too nice. Any group who, after all of the media attention it has received, refers to HER Ordinance as the "Houston Equal Rights Amendment" (especially if they work for what was once the local newspaper of record) is to automatically and heretofore to be referred to as "that bag of idiots".  How can you amend something that didn't exist prior to this?

Unca Darrell asks (and answers) what the Chron considers a "watchdog" to be. - I blame the management and the editors for the paper's decline in quality.  I know there are good reporters still there, I've read them. (and discuss things with them on Twitter)  Unfortunately they're being drowned in a sea of suck.

Speaking of bad. - This is called a "community" blog from a Democrat who doesn't live in Houston and calls himself "GOP Lifer".  It's gotten so bad they've closed the comments.  How about getting a local Republican to pen a blog?  There are plenty of moderate Republicans in Houston.

Wayne Dolcifino is STILL schooling the local media.

Bad Politicians Fight, good ones lead. - Sylvester Turner seems bound and determined to let us know that he's "fighting" for pretty much everything.  This leads me to believe that he's not going to be an effective Mayor.  Well, that and his policy positions. (Especially on city finances)

What's a few Million amongst friends?  - Years from now Political Scientists are going to look back on Houston (and other major "progressive" American urban areas) and marvel at how they were able to keep the house of cards from collapsing for so long.  The next chapter in the textbook will mention something about the gullibility and low buying price of the American voter.

On RG III: the Texans are considered a bad "fit". - But that's not the question at hand for Houston's most mediocre franchise. If McNair thinks RG III is a "good young man" and (most importantly) can fill the stadium, the Houston Texans might take a shot at him anyway.  Winning?  Bah!  Not for this moribund franchise.

Good message, BAD messenger. - First: Hit no pedestrians with your car.

And finally....

I'm just gonna quote this and end without further comment: "So the mayor celebrates ice cream at a grocery the city subsidized to bring fresh produce to a 'food desert' #irony"

Now, on to some FALL weather!!!!
